Crochet Zig Zag Messy Bun Beanie Hat

This is a crochet beanie hat that fits snuggly around the head and has a hole at the top for a ponytail or hair bun.

Hook Size: Clover 7 (4.5 mm) crown, Clover G (4.0 mm) head

Yarn: Caron - Simply Soft – white & pink, 100% acrylic

Yarn Weight: Size 4, 141 grams

Yarn Required: 1/4 skein (250 yards)

Finished Size: 2 1/2” crown, fits 20” head

Stitches: CH (Chain), DC (Double Crochet), T (Turn), SK (Skip), SC (Single Crochet), BL (Back Loop), SHELL (2DC), SL (Slip Stitch)





Gauge: Will be determined by the hook chosen.

Notes: There are 60 rows on crown. Add/subtract to fit your head. Should be tight, because it stretches a lot.

When changing colors, do not cut. Pick up loop of previous color by chaining 3, place hook in front, grab old loop and new yarn.

Pull ball not used to right. Do not twist yarns.


INSTRUCTIONS:


Foundation: With color A and 7 hook, chain 11

Row 1: In the 2nd chain SC, repeat across, CH1, T (10)

Row 2 – 60: SCBL across, CH 1, T (10)

Row 61: Turn crown horizontal, SC across one for one, SL (60)





Round 1: Use G hook. With color B, CH 3/DC in same, *SK, SHELL* repeat around, put marker in loop (60)

Round 2: With color A, CH 3 in middle of V/DC in same, *SK, SHELL* repeat around, put marker in loop (60)

Round 3: With color B, CH 3 in middle of V, *SK, SHELL X4, DEC* around, put marker in loop (53)

Round 4: With color A, CH 3 in middle of V/DC in same, *SK, SHELL, SK over single DCs* repeat around, put marker in loop (48)

Round 5: With color B, CH 3 in middle of V, *SK, SHELL X3, DEC* around, put marker in loop (42)

Round 6: With color A, CH 3 in middle of V/DC in same, *SK, SHELL, SK over single DCs* repeat around, put marker in loop (36)

Round 7: With color B, CH 3 in middle of V, *SK, SHELL X2, DEC* around, put marker in loop (29)

Round 8: With color A, CH 3 in middle of V/DC in same, *SK, SHELL, SK over single DCs* repeat around, put marker in loop (24) Then SC around going under bar in space (24)
