Crochet 1960's Style Mesh Vest
This is a quick and easy vest that has stripes without using different colored balls of yarn. The secret is to use a self-striping yarn.

Hook Size: Clover K (6.5 mm)
Yarn: Ice – Alpaca Mohair Color – Grey Shades. 20% Alpaca, 25% Mohair, 55% Acrylic.
Yarn Weight: Size 4 worsted weight, 100 grams
Yarn Required: 1 full skein, plus 1 half (218 yards each)
Finished Size: 35” wide, 32” long from top of shoulder, each front strap is 10” tall
Stitches: HDC (Half Double Crochet), CH (Chain), SC (Single Crochet), T (Turn), SK (Skip)
Gauge: Will be determined by the hook chosen.
Notes: Start from bottom up.
Must match up color for second front strap.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Foundation: CH 90, T. HDC across, CH 2, T.
Row 1: HDC, *(CH 5/SK 3, SC)* Repeat across (24 spaces), HDC in last, CH 2, T.
Row 2: HDC, (CH 3, SC in top of loop), *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* Repeat across, HDC in last, CH 2, T.
Row 3 - 30: Repeat alternating rows 1 & 2, until you have desired length (30 rows).
Make front strap:
Row 31-34: HDC, *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* X4, T.
Row 35-40: HDC, *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* X3, T. Cut, leave tail.
Make other front strap:
Row 31-34: HDC, *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* X4, T.
Row 35-40: HDC, *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* X3, T. Cut, leave tail.
Back:
Row 31: Attach yarn 3 spaces from front to leave space for armhole. HDC, *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* X9, T. Leave 3 spaces for armhole.
Row 32-40: HDC, *(CH 5, SC in top of loop)* X9, T. Cut.
Finishing:
Sew straps to back. Weave in tails. Using J Hook, SC around front and neck. Do not SC around armholes. Make a bow by chaining 75.
